INTERVIEW
02 March 2006

US Music executive: Artists afraid to speak out

Launching the new Freemuse report in Nashville, Freemuse founding member, Ole Reitov, met with one of Nashville’s leading music executives, Bob Titley, to discuss corporate censorship and self censorship in the US

Bob Titley is one of the founding members of Music Row Democrats, which was born in December 2003 out of frustration and concern about the changing climate on Music Row (Nashville’s legendary music district).

Some executives feared they needed to hide their liberal political views in order to work effectively. As a manager, founding member Bob Titley has guided the careers of Grammy-winning legends such as Brooks and Dunn, Asleep at the Wheel and Kathy Mattea.

Titley's political interest has turned more toward activism in the past 10 to 15 years. He worked on the Clinton-Gore campaigns, and clients such as Kathy Mattea have performed at events for President Clinton and Vice President Gore.
