England / Israel / Palestine:
Pink Floyd rock star changed his mind about concert venue

Pink Floyd bass player Roger Waters Roger Waters has called off his summer concert in Tel Aviv and will instead perform in a chickpea field near a joint Jewish-Arab village

The June concert which had been set for Yarkon Park in Tel Aviv will be held in a chickpea field near the joint Jewish-Arab village of Neve Shalom where 50,000 people are expected to attend, reported the Israeli Channel 2 TV. Neve Shalom is about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
In this way the internationally renowned rock star, writer of the song “Another Brick in the Wall, supports a pro-Palestinian movement urging removal of a barrier Israel is building along the West Bank, announcing that he is “relocating his Israel performance in recognition of the problematic nature of the previously planned Tel Aviv venue”.

Many Palestinian artists and cultural organizations and their supporters around the world, as well as a group of Israeli refuseniks (conscientious objectors to service in the occupation army) had appealed to Roger Waters to cancel the Tel Aviv show which was felt would have given legitimacy to Israel’s wall, condemned as illegal by the International Court of Justice at The Hague in July 2004.
