MARYAM MURSAL

Maryam Mursal (born 1950) is a famous musician and singer from Somalia, residing in exile in Denmark. In this interview which was recorded after her performance at a festival in the town Haderslev in Denmark in July 2006, she explains that music is not forbidden according to Islam. “Music is good. It is not good that some people try to stop the music. Most Somalis like enjoying themselves, dancing and singing,” she says.
