Singer banned for showing bare chest
Singer Faizal Tahir is banned by Malaysian authorities from appearing in any entertainment programmes on tv for three months. Reason: he took off his shirt during a live concert on tv
On 13 January 2008, pop singer Faizal Tahir courted controversy by removing his shirts to his bare chest and also his belt live on television during 8TV's fourth anniversay concert.
8TV's top management took stern action and gave him strict warnings. He was also ordered to perform six months of community service. Besides this, two days after the incident, 8TV held a tearful press conference for him to apologize to all who were offended by his stunt.
As a result, on 19 January 2008, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission stated that it has banned Faizal Tahir from appearing in any entertainment programmes on private stations, either aired live or pre-recorded, for the next three months.
The commission would also not approve any applications for live or delayed telecasts of any concerts and entertainment programmes on 8TV for the next three months, effective 15 January 2008.
