Artists Alert Action Project 15 September 2010 to 15 April 2012 The Artists Alert Action Project is one of Freemuse’s main activity for this period. It includes: the establishment of three local and regional support networks in high risk areas, offering immediate and relevant support to music creators suffering repression and persecution; creation of an online action manual in collaboration with other freedom of expression and human rights agencies; and mapping of arts residencies in the three regions. The project is funded by Sweden’s Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression. In 2011, a workshop was held in West Africa (Senegal) in May, and another workshop in MENA in June (Cairo) 9 December Artsfex, Copenhagen Summit on Artistic Freedom of Expression is organised by Freemuse and Danish Pen, including a public meeting in Copenhagen. Support to musicians June-November Freemuse continuously campaigns for the imprisoned musician Lapiro de Mbanga from Cameroon, and follows up on the on-going court cases and charges against the Kurdish musician Ferhat Tunc in Diyarbakir, Turkey
Impossible Music Session no. 3 in New York 16 November In this session, the Boston-based Afro-pop ensemble Lamine Touré and Group Saloum performed a banned song by the imprisoned Cameroonian singer Lapiro de Mbanga, who joined on mobile phone from his prison cell. Read more...

Music Freedom Day - Freemuse Award Tuesday 3 March Freemuse in collaboration with Re:Orient organised two seminars and a concert in Stockholm, Sweden celebrating Music Freedom Day. Artists Chiwoniso, Zimbabwe, Ferhat Tunc, Turkey and Mahsa Vahdat joined forces with Sweden's Matti Bye in the concert recorded by Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. The concert even featured the presentation of the Freemuse Award to Pete Seeger, who's grandson and musician Tao Rodriquez-Seeger, received the award on his behalf and performed a couple of songs. Parliamentary Hearing: Culture and Development Wednesday 4 February The Danish Parliament held a hearing on the implementation of the Unesco Convention on Cultural Diversity. Ole Reitov, Freemuse, was invited to keep an opening speech along with the Ministers of Development and Culture. Reitov advocated a pro-active solution to visa issues for artists from non EU-countries and suggested national cultural institutions and public broadcasting to actively integrate and promote further artistic expressions from developing countries.

Democracy in Dakar - Film screenings and seminars in Malmö & Copenhagen Sunday 1 February & Monday 2 February Filmmaker and musician Ben Herson presented his film Democracy In Dakar about music and politics in Senegal at the Music Doc Festival, Malmoe, Sweden and at the Danish Centre for Culture and Development in Copenhagen, Denmark.
