Freemuse Award 2008
A Freemuse Award will be presented for the first time in connection with Music Freedom Day 2008. Freemuse has received a donation from the Björn Afzelius International Culture Fund. The award will be given to an individual or organisation that "has worked for freedom of musical expression in a remarkable way".

Freemuse Ambassador plays Nobel Peace Prize concert
Freemuse Ambassador Salman Ahmad and his band Junoon will join major artists from all over the world at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert on Tuesday 11 December 2007. Televised to 100 countries the Nobel Peace Prize Concert has grown to a major international event. Salman will join artists such as Alicia Keys, Juanes and Annie Lennox when they celebrate this years' Nobel Peace Prize and help spreading a message of peace.

Music Freedom Day concert offered to European radios
The Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway, will host a concert celebrating 'Music Freedom Day' on 3 March 2008. The concert will feature artists who are facing music censorship and will be broadcasted by NRK – the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. The recording of the concert is to be offered to all European public service radios which collaborate within the European Broadcasting Union.

Visa issues kill music
Concert organisers, artists and cultural organisations are faced with increasing challenges when bringing international artists into Europe. Complex visa processing, cynicism at consulates and slow Schengen procedures generate huge financial loses and great frustrations for the arts sector and damage cultural exchange.
In collaboration with several international organisation Freemuse launches an investigation of visa and work permit procedures in order to influence policy makers and administrators.

Music & Islam - what's the big fuss?
In Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Taliban continues to attack musicians and music shops, but what is the position on music in Islam? For several years Freemuse has stimulated research and documentation on issues of music and Islam. We've now put all the material together at our website with an extensive introduction by Jonas Otterbeck, PhD in History of Religions.

Leading artists are 'Freemuse ambassadors'
Seven international artists have been appointed 'Freemuse Ambassadors'. Most of them have faced censorship or trials, and they will promote the work of Freemuse and continue to speak up for colleagues and freedom of musical expression.

'Hidden Truths’ in Russian translation
For the first time a report published by Freemuse has been translated into Russian language. In the report 'Hidden Truths – Music, Politics and Censorship in Lukashenko’s Belarus', Freemuse turns its attention to Belarus, where freedoms of information and expression have become the unrelenting victims in an increasingly destructive battle for political control.

Ferhat Tunç faces new court case
Kurdish singer and writer Ferhat Tunç is rather familiar with Turkish court houses. Ferhat Tunç was acquitted in a trial in Izmir in October 2007, but he says that he has never before felt as unsafe in Turkey as he does now. Death threats against him are published on the internet, and on 13 December he must defend himself in court again, facing three years imprisonment if convicted.
