Network to study law, culture and censorship
|
Universities are increasingly taking an interest in issues of freedom of expression for artists. In August 2009, an international graduate network in the interdisciplinary study of law and culture was launched in Germany
On 11 August 2009, Freemuse was invited to share a panel on freedom of expression in Osnabrück, Germany, in front of an international group of doctoral students.

The panel was hosted by The European Legal Studies Institute (ELSI) and the Institute for English and American Studies at the University of Osnabrück in Germany
The 2009 summer school, entitled Convergences: Law, Language and Culture – First International Osnabrück Summer School on the Cultural Study of the Law, was the first part of a long-term collaboration to establish an international graduate network in the interdisciplinary study of law and culture.
Freemuse programme manager Ole Reitov shared the panel with the award winning directors of The Belarus Free Theatre, Natalia Koliada and Mikolei Khalzin, and director Todd Lester of FreeDimensonal, an international network hosting activists in art spaces and using cultural resources to strengthen their work.
