Cameroun:
Underskriftsindsamling for fængslet musiker

Menneskerettighedsorganisationerne Freemuse og International PEN, jurist-organisationen Freedom Now, guitarproducenten Vigier og webstedet MyMondoMix.com kører i øjeblikket kampagner for at få singer-songwriter Lapiro de Mbanga fra Cameroun løsladt fra fængslet

Den 24. september 2008 blev Lapiro de Mbanga (hans rigtige navn er Pierre Roger Lambo Sandjo) idømt tre års fængsel og en urimeligt stor bøde på over tre millioner kroner.

Lapiro de Mbanga er kendt som en udtalt kritiker af regeringen, både som sangskriver og som medlem af et oppositionsparti. Dommen menes af mange iagttagere, såvel i Cameroun som internationalt, at være direkte forbundet til hans kritiske sangtekster. I perioden, hvor der var voldsomme optøjer i Cameroun, blev hans sang 'Constitution Constipée' spillet overalt i landet. Den er i dag forbudt, (men kan høres på myspace.com/musiccensorship) og Lapiro er smidt i fængsel på en anklage om at have være medvirkende til at ophidse en gruppe unge til at begå hærværk. Som sådan krænker fængselsdommen Lapiros ret til ytringsfrihed.

Organisationerne har lavet flere online underskriftsindsamlinger, hvor alle der skriver under med sin emailadresse er med til at opfordre myndighederne i Cameroun til at løslade Lapiro øjeblikkeligt og betingelsesløst.

Lapiro de Mbangas helbred er blevet forringet på grund af dårlige forhold i fængslerne, og underskriftsindsamlingen anmoder om, at han behandles humant, mens han er i forvaring, herunder at han forsynes med tilstrækkelig mad og lægehjælp.
