Music Freedom Day in The Hague, city of international law
The organisation Music Force marks Music Freedom Day in the Netherlands on 3 March 2010.
Among the supporters of the Music Freedom Day events in The Hague is the city's municipality, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Fonds 1818.
The programme on 3 and 4 March 2010 consists of a musical programme in Het Paard van Troje, and a discussion along with a film screening at Filmhuis Den Haag.
3 March: Opening including the Dutch human rights ambassador and the presentation of the new Freemuse CD 'Listen to the banned'. The album features music which is banned or prohibited in the countries of the musicians, in other words: unheard of. The evening will have performances by successful Iranian musicians such as Brain Power and Angelo Pardo (finalist So You Think You Can Dance 2009).
4 March: Film screening of 'No One Knows About Persian Cats' – a film about the underground rock music in Teheran. The film is directed by renowned Iranian-Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi and was extremely well received at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section. The film is followed by a discussion which includes actors from the film and staff from Freemuse. The actors will give a small concert. The language of the debate is in English.
