MUSIC FREEDOM DAY 2012
This page was last updated on 20 February 2012

Music Freedom Day celebrates freedom of musical expression worldwide
Join!

Freemuse invites musicians, music clubs, cultural institutions, broadcasters and media workers to join the annual Music Freedom Day on Saturday 3 March 2012.

Musicians and composers rights to freedom of expression are violated worldwide. Hundreds of musicians are imprisoned, censored and persecuted because of their music or song lyrics.

Music Freedom Day provides an opportunity to take a thorough look at the subject – in your own language, with your own perspective and in a manner that suits you. You can organise a concert or a seminar, produce a radio feature, show a film, write an article, or just dedicate a song to Music Freedom Day during your performance on 3 March.

20 different countries
In 2011 local organisers from Mumbai to New York presented 35 different innovative concerts and events in 20 different countries. Radio broadcasters in several European countries produced special features on music censorship, and issues of music censorship was discussed at seminars in numerous countries.

Role of Freemuse
Freemuse does not fund Music Freedom Day events, but we are happy to advise and inspire you. For this purpose Freemuse has assigned a group of journalists around the world to produce a series of in-depth articles about music censorship in specific countries and regions, to be published in February 2012.

History
Music Freedom Day started in 2007, so this will be the sixth time the day is marked. Below you'll find links to webpages which outline what took place in the previous years.
