Gothenburg Book Fair 2021

Freemuse, in collaboration with ICORN, held two sessions on 24 September 2021 during this year’s Gothenburg Book Fair.

“Silencing artists as ‘terrorists’ – the impact of counterterror legislation”, discussed the impact of anti-terror legislation on artists deemed ‘terrorists’ for their artistic expressions. The session included the participation of Human rights activist and Freemuse Programme Coordinator – Global Monitoring, Jasmina Lazović, who was joined by Sudanese political cartoonist, civil rights activist and freelance journalist Khalid Albaih (participating online).

The session on “Challenging the erasure of LGBTI artistic expressions and identity” was presented in the form of a dialogue with artists, aiming to unpack the complex landscape for those who wish to express their LGBTI identities or produce LGBTI-themed art. Human rights activist and Freemuse Programme Coordinator – Global Monitoring, Jasmina Lazović and Palestinian writer and human rights activist Wesam Almadani  joined the session.

Gothenburg Book Fair is one of the most important literary events of the year in Sweden, acting as a hub for the Swedish publishing industry and forming a meeting place for education professionals and librarians.
